Antipollution Attends the Naming and Handover Ceremony of New Island-Class Patrol Boats

The naming and handover ceremony for the newly acquired Island-class patrol boats by the Hellenic Navy took place at the Salamis Naval Shipyards. This momentous event marked a significant addition to Greece’s naval fleet and underscored the close ties between Greece and the United States in defense cooperation.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Minister of National Defense, Mr. Nikos Dendias, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, and the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, alongside senior naval officers. It was a meticulously organized event by the Hellenic Navy, characterized by grandeur and deep emotional resonance.

In accordance with Decision No. 69 from the 24th session of the Supreme Naval Council on July 3, 2023, the names of the four Island-class coastal patrol boats were announced as follows:

  • P197 – Sub-Lieutenant (2nd Class) Ioannis Mantouvalos
  • P198 – Sub-Lieutenant (1st Class) Georgios Galanis
  • P288 – Sub-Lieutenant (2nd Class) Antonios Liaskos
  • P289 – Chief Petty Officer Hector Gialopsos

Antipollution was honored to participate in this historic occasion, emphasizing its unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to the safety and protection of Greece’s maritime domain. The event’s atmosphere reflected the Hellenic Navy’s dedication to precision and excellence, resonating with pride and a profound sense of duty.

The ceremony not only celebrated the integration of these state-of-the-art patrol boats into the Hellenic Navy but also paid tribute to the legacy of the distinguished naval officers whose names these vessels bear. The heartfelt proceedings served as a testament to the enduring spirit and resilience of Greece’s naval forces.
