The 5th International Conference of the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association was held in Athens from 14th to 15th of December, under the title “Solid Waste Management and its Contribution to Circular Economy”, in cooperation with International Solid Waste Association, under the auspices of the ministry of Environment and Energy, Internal Affairs, Infrastructure and Transport and the Central Union of Greek Municipalities.
All stakeholders involved in solid waste management in Greece participated in the conference, along with representatives from political leadership, local government, scientists and representatives from constructing and consulting companies.
Conference topics were focused on circular economy, new legislative framework requirements, and also the revision of the National Waste Management Plan and Regional Planning, according to the newest directions of the EU for Circular Economy.
Finally, there was an introduction on waste management technologies, innovative techniques and successful case studies in the field of waste management and procedures for the construction of upcoming treatment infrastructures in Greek regions.
