The drill for combatting marine pollution incident named “POSEIDON 2016” was held successfully by the Central Coast Guard of Patras, in cooperation with the Patras Port Authority and ANTIPOLLUTION S.A contracted for the Contingency Plan of the Port for combatting marine pollution, as well as relevant stakeholders like Emergency Response National Center (EKAB), RED CROSS, Hellenic Environmental Center (HEC), Passenger vessel HELLENIC SIRIT, MT AEGEAN.
The scenario of readiness was based on a hypothetical pollution incident during bunkering procedure of HELLENIC SPIRIT moored side by side to MT AEGEAN.
The drill aimed the boats of the Coast Guard, HEC bunkering vessel and an Emergency Response National Center (EKAB) ambulance. Skip containers were placed at dockside for the collection and disposal of solid waste that might be produced during drill.
An elementary school of Patras was invited by the Port Authority of Patras to attend the process in the context of environmental awareness course as well as the local television station that was the media in charge of the broadcasting.
